Fiesta Local
La Fiesta de Las Cortes es la fiesta oficial de la localidad gaditana de San Fernando; entre 1810 y 1812, la ciudad se convirtió en la capital de España y la base de operaciones contra la invasión del ejército napoleónico, con motivo de la Guerra de la Independencia Española.
A las nueve y media de la mañana del 24 de septiembre de 1810, los diputados convocados a Cortes para representar el Gobierno de la Nación prestaron juramento en la Iglesia Mayor de San Pedro y San Pablo.
La fiesta tiene un valor histórico a nivel local y nacional, por lo que es una gran atracción turística para la ciudad.
Ese día se realizan actos culturales, gastronómicos, deportivos, recreaciones históricas, desfile de Fuerzas Armadas y actos institucionales a los que suelen asistir miembros de la Casa Real y del Gobierno de la Nación.
Las Cortes Festival is the official festival of the Cadiz town of San Fernando; between 1810 and 1812, the city became the capital of Spain and the base of operations against the invasion of the Napoleonic army, on the occasion of the Spanish Peninsular War.
At nine-thirty in the morning of September 24, 1810, deputies summoned to Cortes to represent the Government of the Nation took the oath of office at st. Peter and Paul's Main Church.
The festival has a historical value locally and nationally, so it is a great tourist attraction for the city.
On that day there are cultural, gastronomic, sporting events, historical recreations, parade of Armed Forces and institutional events that are usually attended by members of the Royal Household and the Government of the Nation.
